Hearing Loss and COVID how are they similar? Is there something we can learn from COVID about hearing loss suffers?
This year has brought us many struggles as we are faced with this pandemic. It started in March with recommendation for us to be careful and limit travel. Within a month we found ourselves in quarantine. We were told to stay home and limit our contact with everyone not living in our household. The quarantine was long, lonely, and just exceedingly difficult to function during this time. People found themselves suffering from depression and anxiety as our time at home away from our loved ones lasted longer and longer.
So, does hearing loss have any similarities? In fact, for someone suffering with hearing loss it does. The isolation that we felt during quarantine is remarkably similar to what people with hearing loss feel daily. Imagine going to dinner with a group of your good friends and not being able to follow the conversation.
It is frustrating and the person struggling with hearing loss feels isolated just like we did during quarantine. After a period, they just stop fighting to remain a part of the conversation. Once they are withdrawn from social settings studies show people will start isolating themselves. They start staying home because they can’t enjoy dinners out with friends anymore due to their hearing difficulties.
Hearing loss is not isolated to any one person; it does not always have to do with age. Hearing loss can be inherited from your family. It can be something simple like ear wax. Having a hearing test will guide you in the direction to improve your hearing and your living.
